Hiring a car or campervan/motorhome on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland is a great way to experience the area at your own pace. Driving is easy with good highways connecting all places of interest. Take a drive out to Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo and along the beautiful coastline. Local roads are generally good quality but stray animals are a hazard in farming and remote regions. Particular care should be taken when driving at night. Outback roads which are unsealed require 4 wheel drive hire and travel time may be twice as long on poorer quality roads. The main airport for national flights is the Sunshine Coast Airport also called the Maroochydore Airport. Other car hire branches are at Noosa, Mooloolaba and Caloundra. Being only 1 hour north of Brisbane, it's also possible to fly into Brisbane and rent a car from there. Most major accommodations and attractions are spread along the coast from Noosa Heads and 40 kms south to Caloundra. Inland attractions like the Glasshouse Mountains, Australia Zoo and the rich sub-tropical rainforests along the Blackall Range Drive are within 30kms of the coastline and easy to reach with a hire car for a day trip or longer stay. Book all vehicles well in advance for peak periods like Christmas, Easter and school holidays or special events. Book early for High Season September to May in the south.

There are no campervan/motorhome depots at the Sunshine Coast. The nearest depot is Brisbane just one hour to the south by Brisbane Airport and easily accessible by the Sunshine Coast / Brisbane Bypass Motorway.

Many airports now charge car hire companies an average of 10% airport service fee which applies to pick up only - making it cheaper to pick up at a city branch for a longer hire. Airport Pick Up Fee is advised within the booking process. For short rentals the airport pick up fee is often similar in cost to a taxi or shuttle service into the city branch. City branches are also only open in business hours while airport branches are open for all arriving and departing flights or will have a key drop facility for out of hours returns.

All states also charge stamp duty on car hire which varies from approximately 0.5% to 2% on total charges.

Insurance is included in rental rates with an excess or maximum liability payable in event of accidental damage. This excess can be reduced by payment of an additional daily amount. Insurance details are advised during the online booking process.
