| The Gold Coast is one
of Australia's premier holiday destinations. Shiny, high rise
hotels line the long white beaches dotted with sun seekers of
all shapes and sizes. Like Miami or the Costa Del Sol, the Gold
Coast is a mecca for retirees as well as the young beach set.
The Gold Coast is the generic name given to a group of suburbs
and towns from south of South Stradbroke Island down across
the border into the northern New South Wales town of Tweed Heads. |
| Surfers Paradise has a
big name to live up to. It is the suburb at the centre of the
Gold Coast and actually has quite good, consistent surf. It's
not the pumping, monstrous sets of Hawaii though and the well
patrolled beaches are popular with families and less proficient
swimmers too. |

| Being such a popular tourism centre has its advantages.
The attractions are well spread out and there are plenty of
accommodation choices for all budgets. Bookings can be heavy
at peak times like New Year but at other times rates are quite
competitive. Broadbeach is the beach immediately south of Surfers
Main Beach and is closest to the casino. |

are often held at the local beaches with surf boat, iron
man and woman and other events for professionals and amateurs |

| Each year the streets come alive
to the action of Indy car racing. The tight street circuit
offers great views of all the action. |

Gold
Coast Fun Parks
The Gold Coast has
an impressive collection of Fun Parks all within a half hour drive
of Surfers.
Movie World, Sea World
and Wet 'n' Wild are all great days out and wow kids and adults
alike. Dreamworld
has a great variety of rides including a double loop roller coaster.

Golf
Courses
Away from the concentration
of hotels and shops near the coast, are several resort hotels with
some of the finest golf courses in Australia. Palm Meadows is only
a few kms from the main beach and Jupiters Casino, while Sanctuary
Cove is opposite South Stradbroke Island near Dreamworld and hosts
major PGA tournaments each year. Many courses have attached resorts
and apartments and are also open to the public. Club hire is available.
Inland
Ranges
One of the best features
of the Gold Coast, and often missed by visitors, are the series
of ranges to the west of the coastal plain. Several ranges run roughly
north-south and the maze of mountain roads winding through lush
rainforest hides a myriad of villages such as Mt Tamborine, Eagle
Heights and Canungra with arts and crafts shops, country tea rooms
and cool mountain breezes.
Spectacular Cliffs at
