Hiring a car in Australia is a great way to experience the country at your own pace. Driving is easy with a good road network, generally light traffic and only a very few toll roads in the eastern states. Most highways and freeways are free. Possible hazards include snow or ice in winter in the snowfields. Northern tropical locations may experience flooding during the wet season (October to April).
