Territory.
Most visitors to central
Australia come to see Ayers Rock (Uluru in the local Aboriginal
language) and are pleasantly surprised at the number of other
natural and historical attractions in this harsh yet beautiful
region.
The second largest town
in the NT, Alice Springs is still a small town. Yet it
has all major services and boasts a casino, several museums,
golf courses and even a vineyard.
The Alice is also a major
stop ffor The Ghan train service from Adelaide to Darwin,
named in honour of Afghan camel drivers who provided the
first inland freight service in the 1800's.
The area around Alice Springs is dotted with gorges
and ranges many with unique ecosystems amongst the ancient
rocks such as at Palm Valley.
